Who will Provide my Pregnancy Care?
Dr.Naomi Nuridin [Specialist GP]
Perinatal & Infant Medical Practitioner
MBBS | DRANZCOG | Dip. Child Health | FRACGP | Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC) accredited practitioner
Naomi is a medical doctor, an accredited pregnancy (GP) shared care provider here in Ballarat with Grampians Health, and an accredited Neuroprotective Developmental Care (NDC, or “Possums”) practitioner.
Naomi aims to provide parents, and those looking to become parents, with care and support throughout pre-conception planning, pregnancy, the postpartum period and early parenting/infancy, so that they can feel more relaxed and equipped to care for themselves and their babies.
What is GP Shared Care?
GP Shared care is a medical option for pregnancy care for low-risk women planning on birthing at Grampians Health (Ballarat Base Hospital).
An accredited general practitioner (GP) provides most of your pregnancy care in the community, with minimal hospital visits required.
This mode of care is available to most healthy women during a normal pregnancy.
If complications occur during your pregnancy, your GP will refer you back to the hospital for ongoing care, as required.
Hospital doctors and midwives will care for you during your labour and birth.
Your shared care GP continues to provide care after discharge from hospital for you and your baby.
Why choose GP Pregnancy Shared Care?
Continuity - you see the same doctor throughout your pregnancy for most of your antenatal visits.
Cost- this is often a lovely option for those who families who value continuity of pregnancy care, with flexible access to community-based medical care when needed, and yet would prefer not to pay the higher cost of a private obstetrician throughout their pregnancy. See schedule and fees below.
Relationship -you get to know the doctor caring for you and they know you and your medical history.
Convenience - Appointment times with your GP are often more convenient than at a hospital. Parking is free and onsite and waiting times are typically shorter.
Post-birth and Baby Care - ongoing care once you return home after birth is provided by the same doctor - for both you and your new baby.
Comprehensive - longer appointment times allow for the provision of comprehensive and holistic care, including education.
