Your Baby’s First Christmas

Well done mumma, you made it!

Your first Christmas with your little bundle, your first Christmas as a mum.

The holidays are a time of celebration but for many, especially for a new mumma, they can be a bit overwhelming …. so don’t forget that your little person may feel overwhelmed too.

Take this holiday season as a time to relax and strengthen your connection with your little one. Advocate for them, delight in them and take a moment to take stock of what you have achieved.

Here’s my top 5 tips to keep in mind this holiday season:

1.     Make time for yourself. If your partner or family has time off work, take some time for yourself. Ask them to watch the baby so you can go for a walk, get a massage etc.…

2.     On busy days, like Christmas Day, take time to connect with and down regulate your baby. A dimly lit room with little noise and a breastfeed/ cuddle can be a wonderful way to settle an over stimulated baby.

3.     Advocate for your baby. If you feel like they have had enough of being ‘pass the parcel,’ hold onto them.  You are their secure base. You make their world feel okay.

4.     Don’t be afraid to delegate. If you need help cooking, running errands or cleaning the house, just ask. Family will often be more than happy to help.

5.     Enjoy yourself. A few days with a shattered routine is fine. You’ll  have the whole year to get back on track. Delight in this little person, and all the magic they bring to your Christmas…. goodness knows you’ve earnt it!
